Textured implants, which were designed to adhere to the surrounding chest tissue for a more natural look and feel than smooth surfaced implants, have been shown to increase the risk of developing a rare immune system cancer called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL). According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, silicone breast implants with a textured surface are 400 times more likely to cause this rare type of cancer than smooth surfaced breast implants.
